Construction of the tank top Knitting the tank top begins with the body, which is knitted in the round on a thinner circular needle in rib to create a stable bottom edge. After the edge, change to a slightly coarser needle and continue in stockinette stitch while gradually increasing the number of stitches on the sides to give the garment its shape. When the body has reached the desired length, the work is divided to form a V-neck at the front, where decreases are made regularly along the neckline. The armholes are then formed by casting off stitches and further decreases in the sides before the shoulders are finally cast off in rounds.
Skirt construction The skirt is knitted in the opposite direction, i.e. from the top down. The work begins with a temporary cast-on where you first crochet a chain of chain stitches and then pick up stitches in these with the needle. The waist is formed by knitting stockinette stitch which is later folded double to create a channel, in which you make holes using a yarn over to be able to thread in a cord or elastic. After the folded edge has been fixed by knitting together stitches from the temporary cast-on, you continue to knit the skirt downwards in stockinette stitch on a coarser circular needle.
