When finishing a knitting project, it can sometimes be better to bind off from the wrong side, especially if the work ends with a purl row. This will make the finish even and follow the structure of the work.
Here's how to deworm yourself step by step:
1. Purl the first two stitches.
2. Lift the first stitch (closest to the needle tip) over the second and slip it off the needle. You now have one stitch left on the right needle.
3. Purl the next stitch from the left needle.
4. Again lift the first stitch over the second and release.
5. Continue in the same way until all stitches are cast off.
6. When one stitch remains: Cut the yarn, pull the yarn end through the last stitch and tighten.
Tip:
• Keep an even but not too tight grip so that the edge is not tighter than the rest of the work.
• If you knit a pattern that ends with a purl row, the edge will be more harmonious if you bind off with a purl.
• If you want a more elastic edge, you can use an elastic cast-off, also from the wrong side, by inserting small yarn overs between the stitches.
